BACKGROUND:
From Drew Estate:
“Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo (‘H’ stands for Hybrid) highlights a unique dark, air-cured hybrid capa that is derived from Stalk-Cut Habano and Corojo seeds and is grown exclusively for Drew Estate by one farmer in the Connecticut River Valley. Combining the best elements of the Habano and Corojo seed varieties, the H99 capa is an elegant and distinct tobacco with intense sweet qualities that contrast well with the Mexican San Andres Otapan Negro Último Corte capote’s robust spiciness. With a tripa blend of well-aged Nicaraguan, Honduran and Pennsylvania Green River One Sucker tobaccos, Liga Privada H99 Connecticut Corojo is a cigar that is luxurious, complex, and deceptively full-bodied with notes of earth, espresso and leather.”
THE WHOLE MEGILLAH:
My PerfecDraw. It stares with wild eyes as it humps another PD tool. I’m not touching that thing now. I see slime. It lasted a year. I got my money’s worth. 8¢ per day. Your tampon budget is more than that.
Reviews of this cigar have been all over the place. As almost no one said how long they allowed their sticks to marinate pre-review, there is absolutely no way to compare notes.
The average cigar smoker doesn’t read reviews. Because if he did, he’d read a litany of descriptive adjectives and nouns he doesn’t experience or understand. As reviewers, we alienate our prey. Does this make sense?
The H99 smells spicy good. Most cigars smell like shite. It’s nice when one has floridian aromas. The draw tastes like wintergreen. Nice.
Luscious start. Rich like nobody’s business. Holy shit this is good. Can the cigar keep its erection? Scroll to find out.
Normally, I prefer not to regurgitate the cigar manufacturer’s crap. But Drew Estate’s description (See above) is interesting and fascinating.
I’ve smoked a few of these. And too soon is stupid. After only four fast moving months, this cigar has blossomed. I get it…the rave reviews now. Although, I don’t believe I saw a rating over 94. And that one was the ravest of the raves.
Instant flavors that are complex and dense: Dark chocolate, black pepper (back of throat), red pepper (tip of tongue), malt, graham cracker, cinnamon, buttered toast, and slight lemon. No one really gives a shit about flavors. I find myself tired of repeating the same bullshit over and over. I dig a pony, or I don’t. Same goes for you. If I keep going like this, I’m going to talk myself out of doing this ever again. I’d love to just focus on bullshit. I’m good at that.
I saw a 2024 photo of hot chick Chrissie Hynde. Yikes. Some chicks turn into old men. And some old men turn into dust.
Extreme slow roll. Just shy of creamy. The ash is becoming monolithic. Reminds me of days of future past.
This is a good cigar. I believe it was first released in 2018. Quantities released are vague. But if you can buy them from CI, they must be plentiful. And yet a couple of my sponsors are sold out. Go figure.
How purty is this:
Most people don’t go to college. What we are watching is a magnifying glass on a very elite phenomenon.
Mexican San Andrés Otapan Negro Último Corte. 7 nouns. I think.
Hall of Fame drummer Hal Blaine was a bit of an oddball. A super achiever for sure. You can’t be blessed with that level of talent and not be cursed by something. Hal could make you swoon with his ability to drop names. But he had so many insecurities. He railed at me after I wrote an article about him because I mentioned that he worried about the future of his ability to stay relevant. Turns out that he wanted no one to know he might not be getting as many dates as his halcyon golden days. He told me that I could include those neurotic concerns. He said OK. But seeing it in print caused him to panic. Still, he remained my friend to the end.
The cigar.
It was able to reside in medium strength for an inch. Now 2” into the 3 hour tour, the power moves into medium/full territory. I feel it. This is a very convoluted and complex blend. I reviewed the Casdagli Basilica C#3 yesterday and it blew my orthopedic socks off. The H99 possesses a totally different approach. And it just nails the chorus.
I don’t care for Honduran tobacco. It is limp and listless. But in this mixture, it sings. For a long time, the Eiroa family made Honduran leaves a staple of cigar smokers with the original Camacho brand. The company was sold. And big pharma turned it into a bunch of Joe Camel horseshit. What a waste. Christian Eiroa, with his own thing, is trying but he is inconsistent. The bane of blenders everywhere.
Sip of coffee.
Turn off your mind. Relax and float downstream. Surrender to the void. I miss smoking weed.
The halfway point. Lovely and engaging. But shit, almost $20. Damn. Things are really becoming unrealistic. It’s one thing to get an incredible blend like a Casdagli for this price…but doling out the price of a Big Mac every time you want to smoke a good cigar is all kinds of fucked up.
Construction is pure. One of the best built cigars I’ve smoked in a while. It’s like a ’57 Buick.
I could say it excels with nuances, subtleties, depth perception, loads of cheese, flaring nostrils, toe jam, and crazy love…but I won’t.
You can snag the mini me versions with the H99 Papas Fritas. They are 4.2 x 44. Quick smokes. And only $5 per stick.
Charlotte knew Boz Scaggs. A cool guy by all accounts.
And we have full tilt. Seat belts fastened…katman down.
The cops are very restrained. They’re doing a great job. My hat is off to them.
This cigar is less about flavor points and more about the affluence of its very vibrant nature. Well rounded is an understatement. This is a great herf choice. Be my dixie chicken. Southern whiskey.
No idea why I waited years to review this blend. Do not smoke this cigar upon receipt. Show some nutty swinginess and give this thing its due. Let it sleep.
The second half is one giant sweet spot. Shower thee people. I ain’t no porcupine.
Excellent cigar. Worth the double sawbuck.
