Earlier this week, Heinrich Villiger—the head of the Villiger Cigar empire—turned 94. To mark the occasion, the company has created a limited edition cigar.
The Villiger Celebration by Heinrich Villiger is a 6 x 58 diadema that is made entirely of Nicaraguan tobaccos. It is produced at Villiger de Nicaragua, the company’s factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.
Celebration will be offered in Villiger’s home country of Switzerland as well as neighboring Germany. In Germany, the MSRP is set at €32 ($34.75). Each cigar comes in its own cardboard presentation box that is lined with gold foil.
Production is limited to just 500 boxes, which each contain five cigars.
Heinrich Villiger is part of the third generation of ownership and has worked for the family business since 1950; he took sole ownership of the family’s companies in 1989. Villiger, the company, is best known for its mass-market cigars, though Heinrich Villiger’s tenure has seen the company expand into premium cigars, most recently in late 2021 with the opening of the Villiger de Nicaragua. In addition to its eponymous cigars, Villiger is also the co-owner of the Cuban cigar distributors for Austria, Germany, Poland and Switzerland.
